Mother's Day 2013

We had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday.  Here are a few pics.

 I made myself a special Mother's Day breakfast: Baked Peach Oatmeal.  I put it together the night before and Jim popped it into the oven that morning.  I had never made baked oatmeal before.  It was delicious!

 Mmm, so good!  Lena and Jim loved it too, but Eva wasn't a fan.  I think she's just not used to eating oatmeal.  I'll put the recipe up on my food blog later this week.  It was a great start to the day.

 After church.  Someone was selling roses in the fellowship hall, so Jim bought me three.  I was really hoping we could have busted out the sandals, but the weather definitely did not cooperate.  We nearly broke the record for lowest low (got down to 33 that night), so sandals were definitely not an option.

So while I was waiting for Jim to be available to take a pic of me with the girls, Lena started talking to a very nice lady named Anita (Chuck's wife).  I didn't hear the beginning of the conversation, but when I came over Lena was telling Anita about her piggy bank.  Anita said it sounded really neat and that she thought she had some change for Lena to put in her piggy bank when she got home.  As Anita was digging in her purse for some change, Lena blurted out, "I knew if I told you I had a piggy bank, you would give me some money."  !!! What?  I couldn't believe she said that!  Everyone nearby started cracking up, but I was horrified!  Jim and I immediately told Lena that what she said was really rude and that she should not say (or even think!) that again.  Then Lena broke down crying.  We think it was mostly embarrassment because we told her that she was being rude.  Her face turned red and she had tears streaming down her face.

So I spent a few minutes calming her down, assuring her that she wasn't in trouble and that Anita wasn't mad.  After a while the tears stopped and her face returned to its normal color, so we proceeded with the photo.

She looks very stoic!  

Then Daddy asked her to make a silly face for the camera, and she perked back up to her usual self.

This is my Mother's Day gift from her.  A pretty plant inside a pot that she painted herself.  I love it.

We went over to the Chrysts' for dinner.  They cooked a wonderful dinner.  Steaks, shrimp, baked potatoes, and broccoli.  Yum!  Since we were in charge of dessert, Jim gave me the day off by making it.  He made a chocolate strawberry trifle.  Nice job!  It was really yummy.  We had a great evening at the Chrysts'.  Their girls even decorated a pretty flower pot for me with thumbprint flowers and their names on it.  So sweet!

From my husband and daughters I got a beautiful Mother's Ring.  Amethyst for Lena and pearl for Eva.  I searched high and low for a mother's ring with 1. a real pearl instead of a weird brown stone substitute and 2. the amethyst and pearl both the same size.  I finally found this one on Etsy, which means it was hand-crafted after we made the order.  The amethyst and pearl are genuine and the band is sterling silver.  I absolutely love it!  It's just perfect.  I love having a constant reminder of my two beautiful baby girls with me all the time.
