Halloween 2012

This was our first year really doing the whole Halloween thing with the girls.  Last year Lena dressed up for school, but that was about it. This year we carved pumpkins, attended Halloween events in downtown Middleville and at the church where Lena's preschool is, and then we took the girls trick-or-treating at the homes of some of our church members.

 Pumpkin shopping.

 Funny chicken!

 This one's really heavy.

 This one's perfect!

 Look at this weird pumpkin!

 Found an Eva-sized one.

 Time to carve!

 Eva "carving" her pumpkin.

Grandma Sheryl was visiting, so she got to carve a pumpkin too.  Getting help from Eva.

The finished products: Rainbow Dash by Jim.

 Fall leaves by Grandma.

 Luther Rose by Jim.

Pinkie Pie #2 by Jim.

This was mine. I tried to do an "STL" design, but it didn't work and ended up breaking, so I made it a big oval and Mom fashioned a pumpkin face out of foil.  Pumpkin-carving fail!

My camera doesn't do night shots well at all, but you can kind of see how they looked in the dark.

 Pinkie Pie #2.

This was Jim's Pinkie Pie #1.  The design was too delicate and it broke before I could get a pic of it in the daylight.  After this one broke, Jim started over with Pinkie Pie #2 which worked much better.  He's pretty good at this pumpkin carving thing!

 Mom's fall leaves.

Spooky Pumpkin Face.

 Rainbow Dash.

The Saturday before Halloween we went to a little Halloween thingy downtown.  Check out the girls' costumes!  Grammy Tammy made them and they are the cutest things ever.  For those of you not acquainted with My Little Pony, Eva is Pinkie Pie and Lena is her favorite, Rainbow Dash.  Grammy Tammy did an awesome job on the costumes.

Cutest ponies ever!  They even have cutie mark patches.

 Getting candy.

 Mmm, apple cider.

 And donuts!

Sneaking a bite of her cookie when she thought I wasn't looking.

Lena got a free ice cream cone at The Scoop because she was in costume.

Then we headed to St. Paul's in Caledonia. (Where Lena's preschool is.)

 They had fun games.

And a horse! Lena loved it of course, but Eva was scared.

We ran into one of Lena's classmates, Luke.

And her teachers were there too.

Hot dogs, chips, and lemonade for dinner there.

On Halloween Day, Lena's class had a party at school.

Decorating pumpkins with her friend Landry.

Eva thought it was more fun to decorate her face.

 Time for treats.

Lena got to take home a real pumpkin too.  Check out my food blog to see what I made with it.

After school, we got some lunch then took the girls to see some of our church's shut-ins and other friends. Here are the girls with the Egolfs.

 Getting candy from Lora Walter.

 Mr. and Mrs. Walter.

 Then off to the Wermuth's.

Eva was playing with this typewriter, then made the baby type.

The girls with Mr. and Mrs. Wermuth.

Then we went to Mr. and Mrs. Norris's house and visited Mr. Heinrich who is recovering from pneumonia and hasn't been to church for a while. He enjoyed seeing the girls in their costumes.

Gloria Norris had some fun gifts for the girls that didn't quite fit into their candy buckets!

Eva sang "You Are My Sunshine" to Mr. Heinrich.

Then the ponies got to ride on some horsies.

The girls had a great Halloween!

I would like to say a special "thank you" to Grammy Tammy for the costumes and for all the people we visited for filling up the girls' candy buckets.  They had a great time.
