Heritage Day 2010

Yesterday was Heritage Day in Middleville. It was our fourth Heritage Day, and the first one where the weather was less-than-ideal. It started raining right as the parade stepped off, and continued to rain all day. (The ironic thing is that Friday and Sunday were both beautiful, sunny days.) Not only was it rainy, it was really quite chilly for this time of year. It was in the mid-50s all morning, and we only topped out at 59 all day. Our church always has a tent downtown and this time they packed it by 1 pm because there was just nobody out. Really sad considering how well attended Heritage Day usually is.

So I didn't get as many pics as I usually do, but here are a few.

Eva with Renee. I thought this was a great picture until I saw the spit-up stringing out of Eva's mouth!

Scott wearing his Civil War get-up. (He used to do battle reenactments.)

Lena and her bestie, John.

Showing off the tractor show "participant" ribbon John gave her. Apparently Fisher Price tractors were eligible to participate!

My favorite pic of the day. My happy little Eva. (I had the girls all dressed up to match the patriotic theme of the parade, but then had to cover them up with jackets and blankets once it started raining.)

Lena before the rain hit.

Our float.

The community garden had a giant corn cob on their float. Neat!

If only they made ponchos with white tabs. . . .

Luckily our stroller had shades so Eva didn't get rained on.

View of downtown from the parade float.

To see how dismal attendance was, check out this pic of the same scene last year:

Todd and Lena.

Our tent downtown. We were all wearing coats and drinking hot coffee to stay warm!

The bad weather didn't keep Eva from taking a little nap inside the tent.

Lena was whining and fussing about something and a little boy came over and gave her his balloon to play with. It was so cute!

We went home just after lunch. We got into some dry clothes, made some hot chocolate, and got under some blankets to get warm. I spent most of the late afternoon/evening watching a Cardinals game on tv. (They lost, but that's ok. I was just glad I got to see one before the season ends.)

So Heritage Day was a bust and the church made little to no money at the booth. Oh well, there's always next year, right? :)

Tomorrow we are headed to Indiana. Grandma and Grandpa Cornelius and my Aunt Connie and Uncle Chuck are in town to see the babies. Really looking forward to that since we haven't seen them in over 2 years.
