Our new Celosia (red, orange, and yellow) and the transplanted hostas. The hostas used to be up against the deck, but Jim thought they would work better here. He was having trouble mowing around them in their previous spot.
In the little side beds that face Main Street, we planted a yellow Columbine, a purple Columbine, and purple Jacob's Ladders. Bordered by more hostas.
In the other little bed we transplanted Coral Bells and more hostas. Some friends of ours planted lillies there last summer, but they didn't bloom. We think they didn't get enough sun there.
Our first peony bloom. It wasn't quite the color we were expecting. The tag that came with it called it a "Karl Rosenfeld" and showed a picture of a bright red bloom. It turned out more fuschia. So we're not sure if it was labeled wrong or what. It's still pretty, but it's too bad it's not red because we were going to plant a white one next to it and have a Cardinals theme going on. :)
I never did post pics of our completed garden.
We've got tiny little sprouts coming up: lettuce, corn, carrots, and onions.
We got done just in time. Looks like we're going to have thunderstorms rolling through pretty soon. We have a severe thunderstorm warning and the thunder is rumbling like crazy.
Can anyone identify this garden tool? We got it at a secondhand store in Hastings over the weekend. Jim really likes it, but we don't know what to call it. It's pretty old.
Jim thought it might be called a cultivator, but when I googled that, only three-pronged instruments came up.
The blades are very sharp on both ends. In fact, Jim found that out the hard way today. It was on the ground and he accidentally kneeled on it. Yikes!
So does anyone know the name? If so, leave a comment and let us know.
