Weight: 22.4 lbs (50th percentile)
Height: 33 inches (over 99th percentile!)
Head Circumference: 46 cm (50th percentile)
Her weight surprised me a little bit; I thought it would be more. She certainly feels heavier than that when I've been holding her for a while! And the height, my goodness! The doctor actually used the words, "off the chart." Holy cow! I don't know how we got such a tall baby. I noticed that the dress she wore on Sunday (for the first time, a 12 month size) was short on her. On Tuesday for the funeral she wore an 18 month dress and the length was much better.
I finally asked the doctor about a little bitty dot on the bottom of Lena's foot that I had noticed a long time ago (I kept forgetting to ask at all her other appointments). Turns out it is a wart! Not sure were she got that. We thought it was from having the IV in her foot when she was a newborn. The doctor didn't recommend traditional treatments (freezing it off, etc) for it since it could be traumatic for someone so young. So she suggested we try an herbal remedy: tea tree oil. We are supposed to put it on once a day and see if that helps.
Lena got three shots and handled them pretty well. One of them left a burning sensation for a few minutes after the shot and Lena kept trying to touch her leg there so I think it bothered her a little bit. But by the time we got out to the car she was her happy self again. (It probably helped that Daddy gave her a sucker on the way out of the office!)
The doctor said that even though it seems like Lena is taking a really long time to say new words, her verbal development is on track for someone her age. She said not to worry; that Lena is understanding a lot more than what she is saying.
Overall it was a good visit. She goes back for her 18 month appointment on September 1st.
