Cardinals Game in Detroit

Jim and I went to see the Cardinals play the Tigers in Detroit last week.  We had been to Comerica Park once before, the summer Lena was a baby.  The Cardinals aren't in Detroit very often, so we jumped at the chance to go again.  This marks the ninth year in a row we have been to at least one Cardinals game.  Grandma Sheryl came up to watch the girls for the day.

We ate lunch at a place called Vivio's.  It was so crowded, I felt like I was practically sitting in some other woman's lap!

Like last time, we parked at Historic Trinity and walked the 10 blocks to the ballpark.  On the way back, we were wishing we had just taken the shuttle from Vivio's!

Comerica is a really nice ballpark.  See the temperature up there on the board? 92. It was 93 for most of the game and we were sitting in direct sun the entire time.  Thankfully, there was a pretty strong breeze that kept us somewhat comfortable.  It was actually so windy that we watched a piece of trash float right up from the lower decks and over the edge of the stadium!

 The view from our seats.

Right behind home plate.  This is Schumaker batting, I think.

 Detroit skyline.

When we stopped at the outlet mall near Howell on our way there, Jim got this mustache key chain.  It has a button on it, when pressed it says, "Well, hello there!" in a deep voice.

Even my toes were in the Cardinals spirit.

Just like the last time we were at Comerica Park, the game went into extra innings.  Not a great thing when you've already been sitting there for 2+ hours in 93 degree weather!  We stayed for most of the 10th inning, but then it clouded over and started to rain, so we took off a little early.  We were only a couple of blocks away from the stadium when we heard the crowd go wild because the Tigers had won.

Even though the Cardinals didn't win, we had a great time at the ballpark, and just spending the day together, sans kiddos.

Thanks so much to Grandma Sheryl for watching the girls!
