On Sunday, we spent the afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark watching the West Michigan Whitecaps (a minor league team in the Tigers organization).
We got our tickets through Thrivent, the Lutheran insurance company. They were package deal tickets: they included entry into the game, a private deck area for seating, and an all-you-can-eat lunch. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me! Especially considering that Lena's ticket was only $5 and Eva was free! If you're going to take little kids to the ballpark, this is the way to do it!
The view from our deck. The seating was picnic tables, instead of bleachers, which was great for feeding kids.
The Whitecaps players wore special puzzle-piece jerseys that day for Autism awareness.
Lunch. Options included cheeseburgers, hot dogs, or brats, potato salad, chips, and cookies. Not bad!
Oh, and a variety of soft drinks. Eva loved the pink lemonade.
Watching the game.
The Dippin' Dots weren't free, but who could resist? They even had a non-dairy kind that the girls shared.
I went with good ol' cookies and cream.
Eva giving Daddy spontaneous kisses.
We saw a few people that we knew. There probably would have been more, but it was the first day of the Michigan District Convention, so most other pastors were leaving town.
It was a warm day, about 86.
Lena got to meet Franky, one of the Whitecaps' mascots.
Eva thought he was funny.
Boulder Ridge Animal Park was there with a bunch of animals. It was kind of like a mini zoo at the ballpark!
The neatest animal was this huge tortoise.
He just sat there munching grass while the kids looked at him.
Eva imitating him.
Then the kids got to pet him.
He decided to start walking around.
What a sight!
They had a bunch of reptiles there too. This was a bearded dragon, I think.
I can't remember what this one was, but Eva liked it!
Lena got to pet that one too.
Then it was time to jump around for a little bit.
They have a very nice playground there.
Trying to decide if she wants to go down the slide or not.
Daddy snapped this picture of Eva. My new favorite! I love how her hair is sticking out from her head in all directions; definitely my kid!
Here's a video of the girls at the playground.
Getting a little help from Daddy.
She finally did go down the slide!
Then we went back to our table where the girls colored in coloring books that we got when we came in.
Eva loves to trace her hand, ever since Grandpa Brian did it for her last time.
She still uses both hands to color, but I think she will be a righty.
Yeah, Lena still doesn't have a great concept of "personal space"!
Watching the game.
The highlight of Lena's day was getting to meet Brobee, from Yo Gabba Gabba. She gave him a big ol' hug.
And shook his hand.
We didn't stay for the whole game, as it was hot and the girls were tired. Eva usually sleeps all afternoon on Sundays, so she didn't last long once we got in the car.
We had a great time at the ballpark and can't wait to go again next year.
